A National Park is a protected area established by the government under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 to conserve wildlife, biodiversity, and natural habitats. Its main aim is to conserve the entire ecosystem. Activities such as hunting, poaching, deforestation and grazing on cultivation are strictly prohibited within these parks.

There are total 106 existing national parks in India. They cover an area of 44,378 sq. km, which covers about 1.35% of the country’s total geographical area.

Jim Corbett National Park of Uttarakhand state is the first and oldest national park of India, having the highest number of tigers. Andaman and Nicobar Islands has total 9 national parks. The state animal is Dugong. The list of national parks in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are as:
